PrecisionLife is a precision medicine company dedicated to improving scientific understanding of complex chronic diseases through genetic and biological research. We're headquartered in Oxford in the UK and we also have teams and offices in London, Copenhagen, Warsaw, and Cambridge, Massachusetts.We specialize in understanding how groups of genes work together across mechanisms to influence health. This approach reflects the reality of conditions like long COVID, which are complex and can affect people in different ways. We have collaborations with over 60 leading national, academic, clinical, and scientific research centers and conduct studies around the world. Our results are published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, are open access so that anyone can view them in full, and contribute to global research efforts in many important disease areas.
We're committed to finding solutions that make a tangible difference to people's lives. We publish open access scientific papers so the research and patient communities can scrutinize and understand our results. Our ongoing mission is to use our research insights to find better, more personalized diagnostic and treatment options for patients urgently.Over the last 6 years we’ve funded a number of studies to build a deeper understanding of the different factors that cause long COVID and ME/CFS. These studies have shown where the diseases are similar and different, and explain why they produce such a range of symptoms in different people.
Steve Gardner, Ph.D
Co-founder and Chief Executive
Steve has 35 years’ experience building world-class teams, products and companies in precision medicine, drug discovery and computational biology in the UK, EU and USA.
He has developed world-leading AI enabled genomics, analytics, drug repurposing, precision medicine, and diagnostics tools for life science and healthcare including several patented inventions. He was Global Director of Research Informatics for Astra and involved in the early Human Genome project. Steve’s mission is to extend precision medicine into complex, chronic diseases with as yet unmet medical needs.
Steve is Chair of the UK BioIndustry Association’s Data, AI and Genomics Advisory Committee, Scientific Advisor to Our Future Health, Strategic Oversight Board member for UK Biobank and industry advisor to the Health Data Research Service. He is Expert in Residence at Oxford University, and former Co-Chair of the Complex Disorders Alliance’s SAB. He works with multiple disease charities, research institutes, and national policy initiatives on data, AI, and precision/preventive medicine strategy.
Rowan Gardner
Co-founder and Chief Business & Investment Officer
Rowan has over 30 years of experience working in innovative businesses applying computational methods to life science and patient data to understand disease and find new medicines and treatments for unmet medical needs. She is an experienced entrepreneur and advisor to fast growing companies and is a Co-founder and Chief Business and Investment Officer of PrecisionLife, expanding precision medicine in chronic disease.
She is a non-executive director of STFC Innovations, which is the commercialization and technology transfer arm for the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), helping move scientific research and intellectual property out of the lab and into the commercial market.
She was formerly a board member of Digital Health and Care Wales a strategic health authority tasked with the digital transformation of NHS in Wales. She was responsible for oversight and assurance of information governance and cyber security as Chair of the digital governance and safety board sub-committee.
Rowan holds a Masters in biochemistry from the University of Oxford and played a part in one of the university's first spinouts, Oxford Molecular Group, when it listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1994. She collaborated with the pioneering team at CERN to disseminate the applications to cloud computing frameworks in healthcare and pharmaceutical research. She has served on various grant awarding juries including Cartier Women’s Initiative and most recently SPRIN-D’s Continuous Hormone Monitoring Challenge.
Gert Møller, Ph.D

Gert is an entrepreneur with over 35 years of experience of driving new innovations, including solutions for precision medicine and digital health.He invented and developed some of the novel solutions which are the foundation of PrecisionLife’s core technology for combinatorial analysis. He is the principal inventor of our patents for the PrecisionLife platform and has won awards for his innovations.With a PhD in systems science from the Technical University of Denmark Gert pioneered in the use of mathematical methods from theoretical physics (based on symmetries and conservation laws) for modeling and analysis of complex systems in many dimensions.
These methods were originally designed for rule-based systems and decision support but later extended to discovery and validation of genetic signatures in case-control datasets.
